Commenting on the University and College Union report which reveals a postcode lottery for educational attainment across Scotland, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:
"This postcode lottery for educational attainment needs to end. It is neither right nor fair that those living in more deprived areas across Scotland still lag behind those in more affluent areas.
"A good, solid educational base can be a launch pad out of deprivation. That is why it is so important that the Scottish Government gets this right.
"The SNP needs to sort out its approach to early years education. Their early years strategy has no extra money attached to it, they have reduced the number of teachers in nursery education and class sizes for early years education in deprived areas are still too high.
"All the research shows that investment in early years education makes the difference when it comes to educational attainment in later life. The SNP needs to raise its game."
